Hi, My name is Farmer Joe and at Great Lakes Farms I am "The Apple Guy"
The 2015 season is a wild one so far. We had two cold nights during bloom time. We had helicopters in to try and protect the crop, but despite our best efforts temperatures got to -2.5 C and it is now evident that we have about a 20% -30% crop. Some varieties are hit harder than others, and some apples will look kind of ugly (these apples are perfect for pie).
Strawberries are coming. We lost most of our earlier varieties to the frost. We hope to have more the Week of June 20.
We have some peaches in the tops of the trees, so we will have a peachfest this year. Stay tuned for dates. I can't wait to have some delicious pie from the bakery.
