Hi! I’m Farmer Joe
My wife's family has been growing apples for a very long time. Her Opa came from Holland and purchased a farm just down the road from Great Lakes Farms in the 1950's. He took what he learned in Holland, and started planting dwarf apple trees in Canada. He was one of the first in the area to do so. Opa sold his apples through the wholesale market.
His son, and my favorite father in law, took over the farming operations and purchased Great Lakes Farms in 2000 to expand the existing farm. My wife, along with her sisters and brother helped out with many different farm jobs from thinning apples to selling apple pie.
In 2005 I came into the picture, marrying the oldest daughter. I grew up on a dairy farm, so I had a lot to learn about apples. Our passion for agriculture has allowed us to work hard with our children running Great Lakes Farms. We love what we do and hope you enjoy the farm!
ABOUT THE FARM
Our historic apple barn maintains a rustic, antiquated elegance while still offering all the most modern amenities. Located on 155 acres, our completely renovated barn boasts a large contemporary kitchen, restrooms, an outdoor patio, outdoor lawn and game space, and plenty of parking.
At Great Lakes Farms the fall season is full of excitement! Start your visit with a wagon ride around the farm or a trip through the corn maze. Afterwards, grab a push-wagon and head into the orchard to pick a bushel of fresh, crisp apples straight from the tree. Feel free to add a couple homegrown pumpkins from the patch. After a hard afternoon of harvesting, you can relax in the cafe and enjoy some delicious, fresh-baked apple treats. Explore our fun farm which includes a corn maze, zip line, straw mountain, and tractor ride. We also host birthday parties and school tours. Come join us!
We also have pick-you-own strawberries, and peaches while they're in season! Our Fall Bakery at Great Lakes Farms we know that delicious baked goods start from great ingredients. To make our Famous Apple pie we start with our own fresh fruit, and then we use pastry made from scratch. Our bakery started with the Apple pies. Now we also bake fresh apple crisp, apple strudel, apple muffins, and apple cookies. We work hard making our homemade pies and baked goods for you. We hope you enjoy them!
On our Farm there is also a rustic cafe with a porch overlooking the orchard. Here you can enjoy a serving of your favorite baked good with ice cream along side a delicious beverages.
We love having visitors on the farm. To make sure everyone has fun on the farm, there are three simple rules;
1. The farm is a pet free zone because of current food safety guidelines. They cannot be in the orchard or apple barn. Please leave your furry friends at home.
2. The farm is smoke free. This allows all visitors to enjoy the farm.
3. Stay in designated visitor areas. The wholesale orchard is for trained staff only.
